Director of Estimating and Sales | Lead Estimator | Preconstruction
- Location: Bakersfield, CA (fully on-site, with regional travel). Relocation candidates are welcome.
- Compensation: $180,000–$250,000 base salary + annual discretionary bonus + ESOP, 100% employer-paid employee medical/dental, and 401(k) with match up to 4%.
Director of Estimating & Sales for an employee-owned general contractor (GC) in Bakersfield, California. Mix of construction estimating, preconstruction, bid strategy, and business development. About $200M in annual revenue. Plan is $300M.
Projects
Multifamily / multi-family apartments (60–700 units), K-12 school construction and institutional work (schools, religious, medical, $1M–$50M), commercial construction ($1M–$50M), and industrial construction (aviation, agriculture). Design-build, negotiated, and hard-bid. Work across Central California: Bakersfield, Santa Barbara, Fresno, Central Valley, and Antelope Valley.
What you'll do
- Lead estimating and sales / business development with the Company President
- Bid / no-bid, pricing, risk, and win strategy
- Run takeoffs, hard-cost estimating, trade pricing, value engineering, and subcontractor bidding
- Lead a team of 3 estimators and 1 estimating assistant
- Target at least 6 construction bids per month and grow backlog
- Prequalify subcontractors and expand the bid list
- Turn awarded jobs over to project managers
- Put in a CRM and pursue new construction markets
Requirements
- 10+ years construction estimating at a general contractor
- Multifamily, K-12 school, and commercial estimating experience
- Experience as a lead estimator or estimating manager
- Design-build estimating from conceptual plans and performance specs
- California building code
- Cost knowledge: concrete, structural, MEP, interior fit-out, site work
- Estimating software: Sage Estimating, ProEst, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Autodesk Takeoff, RSMeans, or similar
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
- CMAA, AACE, or CCS a plus
