A national, multidisciplinary architecture, engineering, and development firm is hiring a Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager in Newport Beach, CA to lead a civil engineering sub-department of Project Managers, engineers, designers, and technical staff. You'll own a portfolio of civil and site development projects, set department standards, and act as the senior technical authority on stormwater, utilities, grading, and permitting. It's a leadership role for a licensed PE who wants to build a team and shape how projects get delivered. You'll also track departmental KPIs, support Project Managers on scope changes and risk, and help resolve escalated client concerns.
What you'll do
- Lead a civil engineering sub-department, including staffing and resource planning, workload balancing, performance evaluations, hiring, and promotions.
- Oversee a portfolio of civil engineering projects and review and approve plans, budgets, schedules, and technical deliverables before submittal.
- Provide senior technical direction on civil site development, stormwater design, utility design, grading, and permitting, and approve complex designs and calculations.
- Monitor financial performance, invoicing, profitability, and backlog against departmental targets.
- Set and enforce department standards, workflows, and quality control procedures.
- Manage high-value client relationships and lead proposals, presentations, and interviews for major pursuits.
- Mentor Project Managers and engineering staff with career guidance and training plans.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's preferred.
- 10–15 years of civil engineering experience, including significant project management responsibility.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Prior experience supervising teams of Project Managers and engineers (required).
- Experience leading complex or large-scale civil/site development projects.
- Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, MS Word, and Excel, plus Hydroflow or equivalent drainage/hydrology software.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, and project financial management skills.
